Brothers Enjoy Wonder Camp for Sixth Year

Meet Maverick (8) and Kingston (10). 

These brothers have been coming to Wonder Camp for six years, and they love it. When I asked what they like most about Wonder Camp (hoping for specific activities or features), their eyes and smiles grew big as they shouted, “Everything!”

Maverick and Kingston’s mom, Mackenzie, confirmed this, saying, “They love Wonder Camp. They look forward to it every summer!” They especially love making friends and seeing them come back every year, she said.

Kingston did share that he loves going outside to our “big playground.” According to him, it’s better than school, where “there’s just swings and monkey bars.” He also announced his plan to volunteer at Wonder Camp after he ages out. Luckily, he still has one more year to attend as a carefree camper.

Mackenzie said that as a mom, she loves that the camps are always fully staffed, so she knows her kids will have fun and be safe. The KCMO mom said they’ve been coming to our children’s museum since the Red Bridge building opened and invites people to join her whenever she can. “I tell people all the time. Go to Wonderscope! Go to Wonderscope!”

Wonderscope offers 8 full weeks of camps each summer, providing a fun and safe space for kids ages 3.5 to 9 years old to spend Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4 pm. Each week has a theme such as dinosaurs, fairy tales, cardboard creations, or natural wonders, and campers enjoy indoor and outdoor activities, group games, art projects, and exploration playtime.

Though many museums have struggled to fill their camp programs this year, Wonderscope once again sold out every single week! About a quarter of campers attend thanks to our incredible Wonder Fund, a completely donor-supported fund designated to share the Wonderscope experience with families who may not otherwise have the opportunity or resources to enjoy all we have to offer.
