Occupational Therapy

Did you know that when children get messy, take risks, and even get bored, they’re actually building crucial skills for life? Join pediatric occupational therapist and clinical educator Lacy Wright, OTD, OTR/L, BCP,  and explore how play powers child development.  In this engaging presentation, you’ll watch interactive video clips of real children at play and participate in discussions that reveal how climbing, digging, building, and exploring develop motor skills, problem-solving abilities, and emotional regulation, while gaining new insights into why “risky” play builds confidence, messy play sparks creativity, and boredom encourages independence and imagination. Walk away with evidence-based strategies to support your child’s development through purposeful play and feel confident letting kids explore, create, grow, and learn!

The Power of Play

Wednesday, September 24  |  6:30 – 8:00 PM

Play is more than just a pastime for young children; it’s a fundamental component of early childhood development. It’s a dynamic and interactive experience that fosters a wide range of skills necessary for personal and educational growth. Through play, children learn to explore their world, experiment with social interactions, and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. When children engage in play, they are not simply entertaining themselves. They are participating in an activity that accelerates their emotional, cognitive, and physical development.

This Wonderscope session, hosted by Polly D. Prendergast, MA, will offer insights into various theories of play and explain why play is essential to healthy development and lifelong learning.

Enjoy a relaxed, adult-only atmosphere offering a chance to connect with other parents and caregivers in your community.
