“Image of a Child” Celebration Wall

The phrase “Image of a Child” has its roots in the Reggio Emilia philosophies which celebrates children as capable, creative, and powerful. Wonderscope, along with child learning environments around the world, are inspired by these same philosophies which they incorporate in a variety of ways. For Wonderscope, Regio philosophies thrive in our approach to programming and exhibit development and are strengthened through continuing education activities with our team and our Board members. One of the activities from a recent session had us creating a list of words that individual team members felt best described their image of a child. These “images” are at the heart of Wonderscope and all of us that work here. The list of words became inspiration for a recent mural project where combining historical photos of children from Kansas City along with the word project into a visually powerful and inspiring mural display. This display became the starting point for our Celebration Wall project.
It is exciting for us to bring together the Image of a Child mural project along with a specially designed space for new photos that celebrates yesterday, today and tomorrow’s children on Celebration Wall, reminding us of how important children are and all that they bring every day to every space they enter.
